Web Application Developer Short Job Description: Experienced software developer with focus on delivering exciting database-driven web-enabled applications using "web 2.0" technologies. Full Job Description: We are seeking a mid to senior level web application developer. You will be developing the next generation of software and web-enabled services for a company in the managed wifi networking field. Candidates should be familiar with the entire software development life cycle as well as developing secure, scalable customer-facing applications. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapid-development environment; a motivated self-starter capable of working independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate has been developing database-driven web applications for several years. You are excited by the new developments, tools and techniques brought about with things like AJAX and Rails. You recognize the benefits of coding using frameworks like Rails and methodologies like Agile, DRY, TDD and MVC (the ideal candidate may have had to look some of those acronyms up and scoffed because s/he has been doing that for years without the need for silly acronyms). You're not a database administrator, but you know your way around a database more than simple SELECT statements. You can create normalized table designs and back that up with optimize indexes and efficient queries. You're not a systems administrator, but you know your way around several linux systems, realize that pico is not a real editor and understand how to install and configure applications like apache. Job Responsibilities may include: * Work with a small team to design and develop the next generation of software applications and web services for Sputnik. * Integrate internal systems to external third-party billing software (familiarity with XML/SOAP or REST calls a plus). * Support and maintain current systems which are mostly web-based applications written in Perl/Mason and PostgreSQL. * May have to perform as backup System and/or Database administrator. Job Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) or 5 years professional (non-academic) experience. 4+ years: * Web Development (D/HTML, Javascript, CSS) * Perl * Relational Database Experience (PostgreSQL is a strong plus. Oracle and MySQL experience also welcome.) * Basic Unix/Linux Administration. Should be familiar with command line/UNIX shell interfaces as well as basic installation and maintenance tasks. * Apache Web Server Administration. * Programming with application-layer security methods. Familiarity with the following are required: * Ruby on Rails * AJAX * Software versioning systems (CVS or Subversion, svn preferred) * XML/SoA/SOAP/REST or other buzzwords for exchanging XML messages Familiarity with the following are strong pluses: * Building E-Commerce Applications and integrating with third-party payment processing gateways. * Building web applications that support multiple languages (CMJK also a plus) * TCP/IP application protocols and working with software firewalls (iptables) * Jabber IM Protocol * Netsuite Familiarity with the following are nice to have but not required: * Mason * PHP * LDAP * RADIUS * C/C++ and other structured languages About Sputnik: Sputnik Inc. is a leading provider of software that allows wireless service providers to build Wi-Fi networks and manage them over the Internet.
