Setting up PayPal Website Payments Pro


Here’s how to set up your PayPal Merchant Account with Website Payments Pro to work with the Sputnik PayPal/Credit Card Module.

1. Log in to your PayPal Account.


In order to accept payments you need to have a “Premier” or “Business” Account with PayPal. Upgrade your PayPal Personal Account if necessary.

2. Apply for Website Payments Pro.

On PayPal's website, click on “Merchant Services”. Then click on “Website Payments Pro” and “Submit Application”.

Fill out the Website Payments Pro Application and submit it to PayPal. PayPal may request additional information. It takes a few business days for PayPal to approve new applications.

3. Select API Access.

Click on “My Account”, “Profile”, and “API Access” to access the API Setup Page.

4. Request API Credentials.

Click on “Request API Credentials”.

Select “API Signature”, review and agree to the Terms of Use, and click “Submit”.

You should receive an email from PayPal giving with a link to your API Credentials. Click on the provided link, or navigate manually to PayPal’s site to retrieve your API Credentials.

When you return to the API Set-up page, click on “View or Remove Credentials”.

Copy or write down your API Username, API Password and Signature. Keep this information secure.

5. Select PayPal Payment Method in SputnikNet.

From SputnikNet, select your PayPal authentication system or create a new one. Select "Edit Settings" and choose the "Website Payments Pro" as the PayPal API Method. Then click "Update Configuration".

6. Enter Your API Credentials Into SputnikNet.

Paste or carefully type your API Username, API Password and Signature into the corresponding fields in your PayPal authentication method in SputnikNet. Click “Update Configuration”.

Note that if you do not select the Direct Payments checkbox (for example, if you are a non-U.S.-based service provider), then the Express Checkout path will be used to process customer purchases and the user will either need a PayPal account or to pay by credit card while signing up for an account.

7. Set up your Wi-Fi billing plans.


Click on “Products” and set up your billing plans. Everything can be done right from SputnikNet. See the PayPal/Credit Card Billing Module documentation for more details.
