How to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot

Sputnik makes managing one or many Wi-Fi hotspots easy and efficient. Get started in three steps.

1. Get a SputnikNet account


A single SputnikNet account lets you manage as many hotspots as you want, all from a unified web interface.
Wi-Fi Setup
Sign up for SputnikNet on our online store, name your account, and you're good to go. A SputnikNet account costs a one-time fee of $49.95.


2. Subscribe devices to your account


Hotspot System
Grow your network with Sputnik-powered Wi-Fi access points (APs) and gateways. These are available from Sputnik and authorized hardware resellers. Or, flash compatible Wi-Fi gear with free Sputnik Agent firmware.

Plug a Sputnik-powered AP into broadband and enter your SputnikNet account name into the Instant Setup page. That's it—you can manage your AP over the web, from anywhere.

As your network grows, add more APs and subscriptions. You pay monthly or annually, based upon the number of access points subscribed to your account. SputnikNet has no per-user or transaction fees, just three subscription levels:
  • Standard access points/routers: $19.95/month
  • High-volume network gateways: $49.95/month
  • Range extenders: free

3. Design your Wi-Fi customer experience


Captive Portals
SputnikNet gives you control over all your Wi-Fi APs and your network as a whole. At a glance you can see how many APs are active on your network, how many users are on each AP, how long they've been online, how much bandwidth they've been using, and much more.

Plus, you have flexible control over every facet of the Wi-Fi customer experience:

  • Set up authentication systems—username/password, guest code, prepaid code, device authentication, PayPal, WorldPay or RADIUS
